More than 50 merchants joined Bitcoin in Bangalore
Gradually the popularity of Bitcoin is growing within Bangalore. Bangalore is the third most populous city in India and now many merchants in Bangalore are accepting Bitcoin through Unocoin which is one of the largest Bitcoin exchanges in India also providing merchant services. The company surpassed 3 lakh registered users earlier this month. CEO Satwik Vishwanath said that there are about 400 merchants in Bangalore who accept Bitcoin now.
Also more than 50 outlets have opened their doors for Bitcoins. With Bitcoins, bus tickets, even shopping vouchers, meals even a haircut can be paid with Bitcoin. Among the big names – Nafa, Epaisa, Tecdoc365, Flight Shop, Etravel smart, Cyberls.
The media is also doing a good job of informing people about the Bitcoin said CEO. But still the acceptability of Bitcoin is lower in other cities than Bangalore hence we need to expand more, he said. In Bangalore there has been a Bitcoin meetup group in Bangalore since 2012 who have had 67 meetings with 3200 members. He also stated that in India bitcoun arrived late and hopes that if government legalised Bitcoin it will also help. The government is currently evaluating how to regulate Bitcoin. Supreme Court has also ordered to Reserve bank of India to report on the risks of the digital currencies and when Bitcoin will be regulated it will fall under SEBI. Hence the legislation will have a positive effect over Bitcoin.
