Angela Merkel, who is in limelight these days is a German chancellor. She had described the Berlin Christmas market attack, that had killed 12 people and injured 48 others as “sickening” has recently said that 2016 had been a year of “severe tests”.
She said that Germany will not bend in front of terrorism and stated-
As we go about our lives and our work, we are saying to the terrorists: ‘You are hate-filled murderers, but you do not determine how we live and want to live. We are free, considerate and open.”
It is to be noted that she was being highly criticised for her decision to allow more than a million migrants into Germany last year, which was considered by many people that it has increased the nation’s terror threat, but Mrs Merkel had continued defending her open border policy.
She insisted that seeing the images of carnage from the war areas such as Aleppo show how “important and right” it is for Germany to provide a home to those who wish to escape from the conflict.
Angela Merkel also stated that “All this is reflected in our democracy, rule of law and values. They are the opposite of the hate-filled world of terrorism and will prove stronger than it. Together we are stronger. Our state is stronger.”
Angela Merkel had also dissuaded the people of Germany from leaving the European Union as well. She agreed that the EU is “slow and difficult”, but it “really can do better than the nation state”.
